Why You Should Have a Long Sleeve Wedding Dress

Wedding dresses with short sleeves, spaghetti straps or those that are sleeveless are definitely getting more popular. A lot of brides now seem to prefer baring their arms. A bride however, should never forget that a long sleeve wedding dress is also still a good option. Why would anyone want to have a long sleeve wedding dress?

Classic History

Wedding dresses have been around for as long as weddings have been. We all know of course that a woman of long ago only had one dress option, a long sleeve wedding dress. It can perhaps be safely assumed that since the medieval era, the long sleeve wedding dress effectively gave off the message of female modesty. A traditional medieval long sleeve wedding dress would have a fully closed neckline and sleeves that went down to cover the fingers. The ancient long sleeve wedding dress however was also a statement of fashion. A wealthy bride could have a long sleeve wedding dress of velvet and damask with trimmings of satin and silk. As part of fashion, sleeve tips could extend down to the floor.

Modern Elegance

The modern long sleeve wedding dress need not follow its ancient look. A present day long sleeve wedding dress does not have to look ancient or vintage at all but still convey female modesty. Long sleeves can easily imply a highly ladylike and modest look regardless of the bodice and neckline cut. It can also effectively bring out the impression of elegant formality.

Basic Purpose

A long sleeve wedding dress has one basic purpose which is to draw attention to your upper parts. If you have hips that are either too full or too small, you may want to draw eyes to your chest and arms instead. Having long sleeves is also a great solution to square shoulders and big arms.

Modern Modesty

Some brides may still prefer a long sleeve wedding dress design simply because of modesty. You can have full long sleeves of the same material as your dress and a simple round neckline. It is possible however to still look modest but also daringly modern. Have the sleeves made of a lighter mesh material and then pick an off the shoulder neckline. You also have the option of a portrait neckline or a low v-neck cut.

For All Seasons

A ¾ or full long sleeve made of the same material as your bodice can help keep you warm and comfortable in a winter wedding. You may still however have an elegant long sleeve wedding dress even in summer. Choose light materials like chiffon and organza if you think the weather will be warm on your wedding day.

Avoid Only If

Elegant long sleeves are unfortunately not for every bride. You should avoid having a long sleeve wedding dress if you are small in stature. You will look out of proportion with a long sleeve wedding dress. You should also just consider having a sleeveless gown if you have beautiful, well-toned arms.

History of the Cheerleader Uniform

Though you might not believe it by the outfits today, cheerleading uniforms started out very conservatively. At the turn of the twentieth century the majority of cheerleaders were male, and they did not wear uniforms but just participated wearing street clothes. Women did join the ranks of cheerleaders, and as they did the cheerleading uniforms they wore were appropriate for the day. There is a postcard from Cornell University, printed in 1906, that shows a female cheerleader carrying a school banner, wearing a very conservative outfit in school colors - a long sleeved dress with a high neckline and long, flowing skirt.

In the beginning stages of cheerleading, uniforms often consisted of a sweater (usually a cardigan) and the school letters on the front. Sometimes a turtleneck shirt would be layered under the cardigan sweater for additional warmth for cheerleaders outdoors. A megaphone (a device used to amplify the voices of the cheerleaders) would often accompany the cheerleading uniforms and they would have the school letters on them as well. Pom poms, another popular cheerleading accessory, started to appear as a part of the cheerleading uniform in the 1930's. The original pom poms were made of paper - Fred Gastoff invented vinyl pom poms in 1965.

In the beginning stages of cheerleading, the male cheerleaders would wear trousers while the women would wear ankle length wool skirts. In the 1950's the lengths of the skirts began to get shorter but were still on the conservative side. Saddle shoes were the footwear of choice for female cheerleaders. Male cheerleaders would often wear flat, canvas sneakers.

During the 1960's the length of skirts changed - the below the knee length skirts worn as the uniform for female cheerleaders gave way to shorter, pleated skirts. Cotton began being used as the fabric of choice for cheerleading uniform skirts, and the use of cotton made the skirts lighter and made for easier movement. Cardigan sweaters were replaced by crew neck sweaters that were often short sleeved. You would usually find the school letters on the sweaters but some squads would incorporate the name of the cheerleader on the cheerleading uniform sweaters as well.

As time progressed, cheerleading became more organized and the routines became more complicated. Cheerleaders needed to have uniforms that allowed for more freedom of movement. During the 1970's most cheerleading squads began to wear athletic sneakers instead of the old fashioned saddle shoes. Instead of sweaters with the school letters, some cheerleading uniforms were sweaters with stripes in the school colors, while some squads moved to wearing vests instead of sweaters. The 1970's also was the time when the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders became a part of popular culture, with their skimpy, form fitting cheerleading uniforms consisting of boots, white hot pants (short-shorts) and long sleeved blue button up shirts that revealed their waists.

During the 1980's the necklines of cheerleading uniform sweaters were more often than not v-neck lines instead of the traditional crew necklines. During the 1990's the length of the skirts became even shorter to provide better freedom of movement for the jumps, lifts and tumbling skills that are a part of cheerleading routines. To determine how short is too short when it comes to the length of skirts in cheerleading uniforms, most squads followed a rule that the cheerleading skirt would end no shorter than the fingertips when the arms were held at the cheerleader's side. Turtlenecks were often left out as a part of the cheerleading uniform.

The materials used in today's cheerleading uniforms are polyester, or a combination of polyester and spandex. The cheerleading uniform top is form fitting, but depending on the squad it could be short sleeved, long sleeved or even sleeveless. The National Federation of High Schools have a rule that the tops worn by cheerleaders must cover their midriffs when their arms are resting at their sides, a change from the tops of the 1970's and 1980's that would show off the abdomen of the cheerleader. Cutouts on the chest, shoulders, back or arms are allowed in today's cheerleading uniforms. Skirts are about 12 to 14 inches in length, but most women wear briefs in a school color under the skirt for modesty. Some cheerleaders refer to these briefs as lollies or spankies.

Even though the styles of cheerleading uniforms have changed through the years, there is one thing that has remained constant - a cheerleader will be decked out in his or her school colors to show spirit and loyalty while leading a crowd in cheers.

How to Sew Elastics the Right Way

Active lifestyle demands dresses made up of such fabrics that give the freedom for easy movement. However, in most of the clothings, elastics are used for making them more workable and flexible with control over their stretchability. Not only garments, elastics are used for sewing projects and other craft projects too. Do you ever wonder why the elastic that you used in your last project does not seem to work with the present sewing project? Why the elastic in your cotton pajama is causing problems while the same elastic in your swim wear is working excellently? In fact, the type of elastics and the fabrics with which they are used plus the sewing methods, all go to contribute in the perfect working of elastics.

Types of Elastics and their Construction
Elastic is a flexible and stretchable narrow fabric made of rubber core which is wrapped in polyester, cotton, nylon or a blend of fiber threads. These exterior fibers are braided, woven or knit together to give various thicknesses and widths to the elastics. Most of the elastics are 1/8 inches to 2 ½ inches wide. However, elastic thread can be much narrower and the decorative elastic waistbands can be extra wide. Different elastics have different degrees of stretchability. Elastics are sewn to fabrics in two ways- direct application and casing. In the first method, elastic is attached to fabric by sewing directly through the elastic and fabric. In the second method, the elastic is encased into a closed tunnel like fabric and then sewed to the fabric often around the waist, at the neckline or lower edge of a sleeve or pant leg.

Braided elastics are used in casings as they get narrowed when stretched. They can not retain their stretch and shape if applied directly to the fabric. These light weight elastics are mainly used on sleeve hems, swim wear and leg bands. Braided non-roll elastic is appropriate for waistbands because they can remain flat when stretched.

Knitted elastics are soft, light weight, strong and appropriate for directly applying on almost any kind of garment. These elastics can also be sewed in casing. They are best for lightweight fabrics. Many knitted elastics also have sewing line at their edges which do not have elastic in them. So, it becomes much easier to sew these elastics to a garment.

Woven elastics, usually thicker than the other elastics, are very strong. When sewn directly onto a fabric, they can retain their width and stretch. Woven elastics can also be sewed in casing. They are usually applied to heavy weight fabrics, such as home furnishings, car covers, bags, accessories, etc.

Transparent or clear elastics are synthetic narrow fabrics that can stretch up to four times their length and can completely recover the original size and shape. They are made of polyurethane and does not contain rubber which makes them appropriate to be used in kids garments or for people who are allergic to latex. It is primarily used in those areas that are prone to lose stretch, such as shirt bottoms, shoulder seams and necklines. They can't be used in casings as they'll roll over themselves.

Tips for Sewing Elastics

Choose an elastic that has the same care requirements as the finished garment.
Use those elastics which recover their original length after stretching.
Use cotton elastic with cotton garments. Wash the cotton fabric before sewing as the elastic will also shrink a little when washed.
Use nylon elastic for lingerie and swim wear. They can be machine washed but dry them in medium heat.
Polyester elastics go with almost all fabrics. They can be washed as well as dry cleaned.
Choose such threads that are compatible with fabric.
Use a ball-point needle when sewing.
Adjust the thread tension when stitching and stretching elastic.
Elastic should be tight enough to prevent fabric from drooping, but loose enough to be comfortable.
Cut the elastic according to the required length plus 1 inch for finishing the ends.
When applying elastic directly to fabric, cut it about 8% shorter than the required length. It will stretch during sewing.
Use a long straight stitch or a zigzag stitch when sewing the elastic directly to fabric. A long stitch having length of three or four is best for most of the fabrics and elastic types.
If doing too much work with elastic, consider buying specialty presser foot/machine attachment that applies elastic without having to stretch it by hand.

Types and Styles of Prom Dresses - Terms and Definitions

Are you bewildered when it comes to shopping for prom dresses? With all the types of formal gowns and dresses available, there are also many terms that describe the length, design, neckline, and style of a prom dress. You might feel overwhelmed when speaking with a sales clerk at a formal wear shop or even while shopping online for prom dresses. Below we've put together some helpful terms and definitions to help you be an informed shopper for prom dresses and other prom-related items of women's interests.

Prom Dress Styles

Some of the prom dress styles you might see include the ball gown, A-line (princess), sheath, lace-covered, high-low, baby doll, chiffon, one-shoulder, empire, golden glamour, modest, and halter.

Ballroom Gowns and A-Line Prom Dresses

A ballroom gown has a very large skirt that billows out from the waist to the mid-calf or ankles. It might have a fitted waist and top or a corset type top. The A-line or princess dress flares out to the hemline and is narrow near the waist. It forms an "a" shape as it fits to your body from top to bottom.

High-Low, Lace-Covered, and Chiffon Prom Dresses

The high-low dress zigzags vertically at the hemline so it is short in some spots and long in others. The sheath prom dress is one that clings to the body and hides nothing concerning your figure. The lace-covered dress can be a satin or satin-like material underneath with lace as a top layer. Chiffon dresses look similar to a fancy night robe worn by the women of Rome or Greece. With a high empire waist, the dress is long and flows from the hips down to the ankles. It is great for almost any figure.

Baby Doll, One-Shoulder, and Sleeveless Gowns

The baby doll prom dress is typically very short and cute. It usually fits at the top and flows at the bottom with a high waistline in between. Baby doll dresses usually come with a tied ribbon or belt around the stomach area to give the "baby dress" look. One-shoulder prom dresses have only one shoulder strap, of course, with the other side being sleeveless. These are usually long and elegant gowns. There are also completely strapless formal gowns and prom dresses. These can be worn with or without a jacket or wrap.

Halter, Golden Glamour, and Modest Prom Dresses

The halter prom dress looks similar to a halter top at the sleeves and then flows toward the knees. It is usually no longer than just below the knees and may look similar to a high-low dress at the hemline. The golden glamour dress is usually shiny gold to appear like "Hollywood" style apparel. The modest prom dress is beautiful, simple, and modest. It covers everything while still giving the wearer a touch of glamour and elegance.

Types of Sleeves

Cap sleeves are short and cover only the upper arms and shoulders. Juliet sleeves are puffy at the shoulders and taper all the way to the wrist. Some sleeves start below the shoulders or appear to "hang off" the shoulders. Also, spaghetti straps are thin straps with no sleeves.

Necklines

Necklines are also important when choosing a prom dress. The empire neckline scoops out and then connects with a very high waistline. A sweetheart neckline looks like the top of a heart. A jewel neckline is simple and round, located just above the collarbone. The boat neckline (Bandeau) comes around to each collarbone, similar to a sailor's suit.

Other Prom Terms to Know

There are also handbags, or small purses, and clutches that can match your prom dress. Clutches are small hand-held bags with no straps. Shawls and wraps are not jackets but fit around your shoulders loosely. You can wear them when outdoors during cold weather and easily remove them for dancing. A tiara is a princess-type hairpiece than can be worn with your hair up or down. There are elbow gloves and wrist gloves. Elbow gloves reach to your elbow, covering the bottom part of your arm while wrist gloves only cover the hands.

Before shopping for a prom dress, know what styles and accessories you are looking for so you can save time. Also, go online to view all the different styles available. You can even find great deals online on prom dresses by designers such as Mori Lee, Jovani, Clarisse, Niteline, Dave and Johny, Paris, Riva and Alyce Designs. There are often beautiful dresses online for the prom, homecoming, and other formal events that a local formal wear shop might not offer.

Get Rid Of Neck Fat - The Absolute Truth Revealed!

Do you want to get rid of neck fat? One thing that you should know about neck fat is that it is very different from your stomach fat. There are two reasons why you can have a fatty neck. First of all, it has got something to do with old age. People who get older generally develop a fatty neck, although this may not be true for everybody. The second reason is that you are possibly overweight, so your fat has spread itself over your entire body, including neck. In this article I will tell you how to get rid of neck fat.

The first thing you should know is that there is really no way to lose only neck fat and keep the rest. In fact, even if you do neck specific exercises like a few shrugs with dumbbells, it can help tone up the area a little but will definitely not help you get rid of neck fat. Why? It is because your body, not you, will decide from where to start breaking the fat. So even if you are doing neck-specific exercises, you may be surprised to find that you are actually losing tummy fat instead of neck fat. The truth is that to get rid of neck fat, you need to get rid of your entire fat, yes including your tummy fat. Once you get rid of your body fat your neck fat will also vanish.

There are several exercises you can do to tighten up your neck. For example, you can stretch your neck as far as you can and then bring it back to the front. It will help you get rid of neck fat as well as your double chin. You should also do regular exercises such as cardio exercises or aerobic exercises. Dancing can also help you get rid of a lot of body fat. Along with doing regular exercises, you should also make sure that you are eating a low calorie diet.

One thing that I should point out to you is that while following a strict diet and exercise regimen, you may not see any results within the first few days. Don't get frustrated, because slowly you will see spectacular results. You will see that not only you have been able to get rid of neck fat but your tummy fat as well!

Do consult with your doctor in order to know whether you are genetically predisposed to fatty necks. If so then you may need to go for liposuction instead of exercises. If you would like to get more information on how to get rid of neck fat, simply click on the link in my resource box below!

Looking Hot In A Red Wedding Dress

As if choosing a red wedding gown isn't bold enough, there are ways to accent the dress which could bring out the richness of the color. If you are considering on putting a dramatic touch to your wedding by going full color with a red wedding dress, you'll have to be extra careful, though. Red isn't really a popular color choice amongst the traditional; it is more for the free-spirited, not for the weak of heart. These tips may help you get the most out of your red wedding dress, while skirting easily and discreetly between the boundaries of convention and individual expression.

Red wedding gowns are essentially dramatic, and what better way to accent the drama than with the bodice. Halter-style and sleeveless bodice, with its high choke or wrap neck, are great for emphasizing beautiful shoulders and back, with the option of going bare back. One-shoulder bodice also add elegance to the overall appeal of the dress, with an asymmetrical cut and an exposed shoulder. Surplice bodice style, which is achieved by a cross-wrapping of the fabric either in the front or back, can also be used to expose more of the neckline if desired. For those who want to push the boundaries, a corset-style bodice is probably the best way to go, since this is very form-fitting and usually strapless, with boning support and lace closures which fastens tightly on the back. While making you look like a regal bride, corsets can also exude some wild and sexy appeal.

Neckline options become tricky when you consider that the color of the wedding gown is at any shade of red. If the color is of the deeper shades, then the neckline may make or break the look of the entire outfit. A cowl, or a neckline with a piece of fabric usually attached to the shoulder straps and droops loosely around the neck at the front or back, gives great complement to the dress; the cowl achieves better effect if it is in a color which accents that of the rest of the gown, such as silver, white or pale gold. Strapless necklines are flattering, if you've got the figure to show for it; otherwise you could opt for safer alternatives such as a v-neck or a portrait (with a shawl collar wrapping around the shoulders) neckline.

As with traditional color gowns, the same rules practically apply for the red wedding gown in terms of body shape and style. The full skirt or the ballerina dress is great at giving proportion if you have a slim-hipped and full-busted figure. The empire line dress gives the illusion of length, and is ideal for petit body types. The princess line gown hugs closely at the waist, which gives beautiful proportion for those with slim waistlines while accenting the bust area. This style also covers wide hips discreetly and elegantly. Bias cut and column gowns are very discriminating, as it looks best with women of more or less ideal figures; this shows off body contours, as it hugs the hip area closely. If you have great shoulders and you want to expose it, the asymmetric dress achieves the effect of emphasized shoulders and arms, while its flared skirt line effectively accents or hides the hip area.

A red wedding gown can wow a crowd if worn with pride and elegance. On the other hand, you could very well look like Little Red Riding Hood being led by the wolf to the altar. At redhotbrides.com, see how other brides are wowing their guests at their fairytale wedding in red style.

Wedding Dress Neckline Choices

Choices choices choices! When it comes to your wedding and picking the dress of your dreams, it seems like a million options are being thrown at you. The best thing to do is remember what is important and to deal with those things first.

Something that is vital to any dress and often sneaks under the radar in terms of importance is the right neckline.

Necklines are the first ladies of the dress world, you may not notice them if they are doing their job properly, but if they are not, it is tough to ignore.

You need to think about this very carefully. You want to draw attention to your upper body and face, but at the same time you don't want to look like a common strumpet. If you do, by all means go ahead, it is your day after all. A good dress will draw attention to the positive features and leave out the bad. A useful point of reference is to think about what tops you wear on a daily basis. This will help to find something that is both comfortable and, when made of silky white material, absolutely stunning. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable wearing your dress, you have to feel good.

After all no one likes a grimacing bride in the wedding photos. There are a range of options when it comes to necklines, a few of these are:

1) The low round or scooped neck. This tends to not draw too much attention to any one part of your body. This means that everyone will be looking at your face. Make sure your hair is in good order if you are going to opt for this.

2)The Halter neckline. This is perfect if you are a bit larger around the shoulders. You also run the risk of making your bust look uneven, so if you are going to go with this for your dress, make sure that you find a tailor you trust to make the alterations.

3) The sweetheart neckline. This is perfect when you want to accentuate your bust. It gives flattering lines to both your face and neckline, bringing a bit of glamour to things.

4) The V neck. The old faithful of wedding dresses. A V neck is both classic, and depending on how low you want it, a little bit daring too. It tends to draw the eye down and into the centre of the dress. Remember that you need to be very conscious of how low this dress dips, take your eye off the ball for one second and you are going to be finding all sorts of new uses for double sided tape.

5) You can also go off the shoulder. Now be warned, this is something you need to be comfortable with. If you are not comfortable with this dress you will spend the whole day fidgeting, do you really want to spend your wedding day squirming? This is one of those dresses that needs your confidence to work, so if you've got it, flaunt it!

At the end of the day, it all boils down to your personal preference. Whatever you feel the best in; will look the best on you.

What Does Your Wedding Gown Say?

Wedding Gown Silhouette

The silhouette of a wedding gown refers to the body shape of the dress that will outline the shape of the bride. The bride should choose the style that best suits her body and is the most flattering for her shape.

A-Line (Princess)

This flattering silhouette is ideal for almost every bride, so it's no surprise that this is the most popular shape. The shape features a flared out skirt from the waist down to your feet, creating an "A" shape. The A-line cut is narrow at the top, cut close to the ribcage, and extends out along the body in the shape of a triangle (or "A") in a smooth, elongated line. Recommended for petite figures because it can make a shorter bride appear taller and for a full figured bride to de-emphasize the hips. The A-line, however, is not recommended for brides with thick waist as the hourglass shape will accentuate your waist. On a princess-style dress, vertical panels of fabric follow the natural contour of the body. This is slightly more dramatic than an A-line design, but equally flattering.

Ballgown (Renaissance)

When brides think of the typical wedding gown style, the ball gown silhouette is often the first style that comes to mind. The ball gown is a classic shape with a fitted bodice and very full skirt that brushes the floor. This silhouette is the most traditional and formal of all shapes and is best suited for the bride in search of a classic and elegant look. Ballgown styles accentuate the feminine hourglass shape with a narrowly-fitted waistline and a full, flowing skirt. Waistlines may be V-shaped and slightly higher or lower on the hips. This dress is a great choice for medium to taller brides and for those that wish to hide large hips. This shape is not recommended for petite brides as the full skirt can overwhelm or take away from the appearance of the bride.

Mermaid

Aptly named, this silhouette features a slim fitted gown that moulds to the bride's figure. The mermaid cut is characterized by a narrow, body-hugging bodice that flares dramatically, at or below the knee, and as such, it may be difficult for brides to kneel or sit in. This style contours to your body (similar to the sheath style), but flares out at the bottom. It has a distinctive diagonal cut on the skirt. For a bride wanting to accentuate her curvaceous figure, this dress is ideal but not recommended for brides with full figures or wide hips.

Empire

Empire designs are cut a bit like a maternity dress with a high waistline that starts just below the bust and derives its name from the style's popularity during the Empire period in France. The skirt is usually slender and graceful and the style is particularly well-suited to small-busted girls, as they help to make more of less. The shape can give the impression of increased height or de-emphasize the hips for those with thicker waist. The "empire" style is best suited for brides with small bust and slim figures but not recommended for brides with hourglass, curvy, full or pear shapes.

Sheath

Like the mermaid, the sheath features a form fitting, body hugging style, but without the trumpeting flair. A modern, glamorous take on the traditional wedding gown, the sheath is characterized by a slim profile that closely follows the curves of the body. Simple and elegant, sheath dresses follow natural curves from shoulder to hem. They often cling and many are strapless or backless. You need to have an athletic figure rather than a curvy body to get away with this style. This silhouette is highly recommended for those brides with a tall, well proportioned (thin) figure but not for full or pear shaped brides.

Basque

This silhouette is characterized by an elongated triangle forming just beneath the natural waistline generally V or U-shaped, beginning several inches below the waist. This shape is great for taller brides who are looking to create an hourglass appearance with the low waistline. Petite brides may want to consider other shapes as this style may create a shorter appearance. This style is recommended for taller brides, large hips, hourglass or pear shape figures.

Wedding Gown Neckline

The neckline of the wedding gown lets the bride show as much (or as little) of their upper body as they wish.

Boat Neck/Bateau

A boat neck comes to just below the collar bone and goes straight across the chest. This can be used with or without sleeves and looks best on women with small busts, but not broad shoulders. A relatively straight neckline, with the same depth in the front and back, opens from one inch of each shoulder. This neckline enhances the chest area so avoid if you are already well endowed.

Off the Shoulder (Contessa)

This style is an elegant look that flatters long, slender necks and well-defined collar bones. The off the shoulder is a flattering wedding gown neckline for most figures. Choose if you are well endowed and/or have a pear-shaped silhouette and avoid if you have broad shoulders or fuller arms. The contessa is an off-the-shoulder neckline that attaches to the sleeves to form a continuous line across the arms and chest.

Halter

The halter features straps that wrap around the neck and generally features a low back. The design emphasizes the shoulders and is best worn with minimal or no bra. This is a sleek, sexy and informal look that works well if you can get away without wearing a bra. Choose if you are tall and have broader shoulders and avoid if you have narrow shoulders or a very large chest.

Illusion High/Strappy

This neckline, made of sheer fabric such as lace or chiffon, fits snugly against the neck with an ornately decorated band of satin, creating a choker effect. The back and front of the gown attach at the shoulder with narrow pieces of fabric. Young, fresh and sophisticated, but you need well-toned arms for this style. Quite a formal look, this is sexy without being over the top.

Portrait

Similar to an off-the-shoulder style but made with more fabric, the portrait neckline is characterized by a wide, soft scoop from the tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other. These bodices are often chosen because of how well they frame the bride's face. This neckline is good for fuller arms and prominent collarbones but bad for undefined collarbones.

Scoop/Round

This classic U-shaped neckline is usually cut low and continues its rounded feature at the back of the dress. Scoop necklines are softly rounded and slope up towards the collar bone. This is a more demure look than strapless, as long as it's not cut too deeply and is a very popular style that is great on most figure types.

Square

The square neckline is similar to the scoop neckline but more elegant and formal. This wedding gown neckline is shaped like a half square. Ideal for women who are well endowed as it cuts low without being too revealing, but is suitable and flattering for almost every body type. This style is used for modest display of cleavage.

Strapless

Very popular style that features a straight or shaped line that sweeps across the chest. As the name indicates, the neckline is strapless. Your arms and shoulders are bare and rely on good underwear and boning to keep you covered. It may also have a crumb catcher, an extra panel of fabric that attaches to the top of the bodice and sticks out slightly from the body. This style works well to enhance beautiful shoulders and collarbones or a well endowed chest but avoid for smaller chests.

Sweetheart

A popular shape, the sweetheart neckline dips down to a point in the cleavage. This is a romantic style that allows for a daring plunge, but more demure shoulder coverage. This low neckline resembles the top half of a heart and incorporates a high back. It is flattering to most shapes and a good style if you are well endowed or accentuating your cleavage.

Asymmetric

This wedding gown neckline, as the name connotes, features a gown with a single strap or an asymmetric neckline. Choose this style to emphasize beautiful collarbones and avoid if you have broad shoulders.

Queen Anne

The Queen Anne features a high collar at the back and sides of the neck, slowly curving down into a low, open heart shaped neckline. This wedding gown neckline is suitable for almost every body type. This neckline is used best to elongate the body and neckline and to discreetly display a little cleavage.

Jewel

The jewel neckline is a high neckline that is rounded at the base of the throat. The jewel style de-emphasizes the chest area (bust and collar bone) and is usually reserved for the more conservative bride. This style is good for small-chested woman and bad for large-chested woman.

V-Neck

This V-shaped wedding gown neckline flatters many body types. The depth of the "V" depends on the design of the wedding gown. This style is ideal for brides who have a medium chest and want to accentuate cleavage. This neckline is used if chest size is "B" or "C" and great for full figured or hour glass shaped silhouettes, but avoid for small or well endowed chests.

Head and Shoulders Pattern Plus Candlesticks Equals Stock Market Decline

I haven't yet seen any comment on it, but there it is: a Head and Shoulders Top in the Dow Industrials Average. The Daily chart of the Dow shows a clearly identifiable Left Shoulder on July 23, 2008; a Head on August 11, and a Right Shoulder on September 2. The Neckline is drawn on a line extending from the low of July 28 to the low of September 5. Our understanding of the pattern - a so-called "western" pattern - is amplified by our knowledge of Japanese Candlestick patterns and, in particular, by the "Evening Star" on July 24, the "Bearish Engulfing" on August 12, and the "Belt Hold" on September 9.

So, what do we make of all of this? The answer is, the Head and Shoulders Top is generally a reliable predictor of a price decline. This one needs confirmation by a decline below the neckline and then a re-test of the neckline and a further decline thereafter. The bearish Candlestick formations add to the mix.

We measure the decline which is expected to be generated by the Head and Shoulders Pattern by measuring a vertical line drawn from the top of the Head down to the neckline, and then taking that measurement and projecting it downward from the neckline.

In this case, we calculate a distance of about 767 points on the Dow from the top of the Head at 11867 to the neckline at about 11,100. Projecting 767 points downward from the neckline gives us 10,333 (11,100 minus 767 = 10,333). That's 897 points below 11,230, which was the closing price of the Dow on September 9, 2008 - and is a price level which was last seen in October 2005.

So, if prices continue to decline after September 9, 2008 and if the neckline is re-tested and proves to be insurmountable resistance, in due time we should expect to see Dow prices back to where they were three years ago - and also where they were in April 1999!

Visual Slimming Tricks - Red Carpet Secrets

Shapewear today is not your grandmother's girdle or long line bra. Instead, this intimate apparel essential product has been amazingly updated with contemporary new fabrics that control and smooth out any lines you want to make invisible. Shapewear hides those little bulges and rolls and that makes your clothes look great, regardless of size. It doesn't matter if you are 110 pounds or 210 pounds, shapewear products smooth out problem areas from back and bra bulge to the hips and thighs. The appearance of looking firm and toned is realized by these red carpet secret undergarments.

Key words for shapewear today are comfortable, breathable, and enhancement. Depending on your problem area, different types of shapewear exist that help different body areas. Below are benefits of a variety of product types and brand recommendations for all body types and shapes.

The Cami Shaper: Body shaping camis come in many styles. A strapless cami shaper is offered by Spanx which minimizes your midriff while simultaneously smoothing out your back. Or you can get a V-Neck shaper from Cass and Co. that has wide straps and a flattering neckline. You can get an underwire cami shaper from Sassybax for a little more lift for your bust and has been designed with fuller figured women in mind and provides support for those sporting a DD bust size. The Sassybax cami is available in sizes up to extra large, designed for women wearing a size 16-18. Eliminating bra bulge and bra lines and back and torso smoothing are a few of the slimming results.

The Body Suit: This style is great because it is comfortable, you can go to the bathroom easily, and the product makes you looked pulled together. My favorite body suits are from Body Wrap as they make one with and without a leg. Their full-figure seamless underwire body suit has a tummy control that flattens and slenderizes, while the rear lifts and shapes. The seamless underwire cups provide lots of support and lift. Wacaol offers a full-figure body briefer as well.

The Bottom Shaper: Many styles of panty shaper products exist. You can go from a thong, to a brief, to a biker short, to mid-thigh, and to long leg. Grenier offers some sexy shaper products and I really like the Cass and Co. and Body Wrap selections. Again, Body Wrap has the best selection for plus sized women. These shapers do not cut into the waist and smooth out bottom bulge. While firming the tummy, slenderizing hips, firm control is provided and the products are invisible under clothing.

The Dress Shaper: One of my favorites is from Cass and Co. This shaper lifts and supports the bust. The benefit to a dress shaper is that it is one piece with overall slimming control, hence smoothing out any bulges back or otherwise, and stays put about 3 inches above the knee. Depending on your size, Body Wrap offers a strapless slip that accommodates a D cup and is available in sizes small to extra large. Spanx offers a full slip available in sizes up to extra large (size 14-16).

A Final Tip-Color: Many of these shapers come in fashionable colors such as brown, cream and pink. Also black, nude and white are staples and basic colors. Nude is always your best color choice because it is skin toned and works with white and black. If your natural skin tone is dark try a brown or suntan for color.

Haircut Tips For Women Over 50

Do you look as old as you feel? Ageing is a part of life, instead of rebelling against nature; embrace this time, remember life is short. There are however many ways in which you can change or alter your appearance gracefully, but let's have a look at how you can achieve the perfect hairstyle to defy your age.

The first thing most women over fifty tend to do is chop off their hair and color it a darker shade to cover the gray, but should you do the same? The smart money says - No, you can have long medium or short hair, because a fifty year old woman can look just as good as a twenty year old with the same hairstyle. Natural looking highlights can alter your look drastically, lightening and lifting your face.

The most important aspect of a new style revolves around taking your facial shape into consideration and determining what features you want to accentuate or hide away. Hair becomes dry and limp so be sure to deep moisturize your hair regularly, making it shiny and full of life.

If you have fine lines and wrinkles, soften them by adding layers around the face. It is strongly recommended to add layers if you have long hair, it will lift your face. Layers will add body and volume to your hair. Expression lines on the forehead can easily be covered up by adding bangs, try side swept bangs as they will add softness and generate a chic edge to your hairstyle. Remember bangs can be added regardless of the length of your hair.

Perhaps you want to hide your neck area and have longer cut layers which will divert attention. You don't need to hide everything though, if you have beautiful eyes, accentuate them with bangs skimming the brow area. Some soft layers may highlight lovely cheekbones. If you want to show off your neckline have a shorter bob haircut.

Often people advise you to have a picture of a hairstyle you like. Remember to focus on the haircut rather than on the person sporting it. Technology can also be very helpful, some of the latest software programs online allow you to upload a current photo of yourself and try out numerous different hairstyles.

If you haven't changed your hairstyle in the last few years - now is the time; outdated styles definitely give away your age. Stay current; be daring and young at heart. Remember you are as old as you feel.

Hairstyles That Lift and Camoulflage for Women Over 50

There are many hairstyle choices for women over 50 and you are only limited by a hairstyle that fits your face, color, personality, hair texture and lifestyle. With the right hairstyle, you can appear as dazzling as ever and look miraculously younger.

Here are four common problems facing women over 50 and hairstyle ideas to help you look your best.

Fine and Thinning Hair

Dry and limp hair is likely the most common problem for women 50 and above. A short hairstyle is most often considered better for women with thinning hair, as a short hairstyle tends to divert attention from the hair to the face. Fine and thin hair looks better when cut in a short bob with side swept bangs of interest. This type of hairstyle is also excellent for camouflaging a wrinkled or high forehead. And if your pressed for time a short bob only needs some gentle blow-drying after shampooing.

Expression Lines and Dropping Jaw Line

Most women want to style their hair close to their face in an attempt to hide a softening jaw line or frown lines around the eyes. However styling the hair slightly shorter around the face in layers than in back, can actually soften your facial features. Styling the layers up and away from her your face with a round brush will also add instant lift to a drooping jaw line.

Aging Neck Line

Losing that firm skin around the neckline can be frustrating not to mention it ads years to your appearance. However you can style your hair in a way to divert attention from your neckline and accentuate your best features like your sparkling eyes or high cheek bones. By keeping your hair length around the ears and in back you can soften your neck and shoulder areas. This type of style also works to shorten a long neckline as well.

Pale Skin Tone and Discoloration

Its well known that skin tone influences your hairstyle and color choice. Women over 50 tend to chop their hair and then color it dark so that the gray hair is camouflaged. You can simply avoid this by highlighting your hair, as it will deceptively cover the age.

In general women over 50 should preferably use light hair colors unless you have a pale complexion. For a pale complexion opt for brunette shades instead, as this makes you appear more youthful.

Those with olive or dark complexions are the luckiest, as they have a variety of hair colors to choose from. They look good in most colors including brown, burgundy and blond. A proper hair color should highlight your skin tone bring it alive and glowing. On the other hand, if you have made the wrong choice you will probably look tired and washed out.

Aging is inescapable; however, it does not limit your sense of beauty and your instinct to earn recognition. You can look beautiful at all ages. With this being the spirit, you can always find a perfect hairstyle for you to look your best. To help you decide on the best hairstyle, you can also use some software programs to save yourself some unnecessary drama and try out different hairstyles on a current photo of yourself.

How To Sew A Lined Tank Top

Sewing projects like this can be so much fun and it saves so much money. Here are two different techniques for sewing, to sew a lined tank top.

Reversible tank tops are so versatile. Taking perfectly, when you are out. You will receive a 2 for 1 above, if you use a different color for the coating. You can even 4 to 1 with 4 different color fabrics. . . 2 colors for 2 front and 2 colors for 2 back. This works great under jackets, because only the front of mind whenwear it.

Test for the first show. It 'a great way to use that many of your stash!

Cuttings can also be different front and rear, if desired. Try sewing a front V-neck and a bullet to the neck back. If you do not have the arrows to the chest, you can wear a back up for another look.

That both techniques for sewing find out what you like best.

Method I - Sew a Binding to the neck and armholes

Directional, necklines and armholes help staystitchprevent them from stretching.

In other words, point 1 / 2 "from the edge of a single layer
Material from the shoulder back toward the center front and center
on the cut.

Staystitch from the shoulder to the forearm on the sleeves.

Staystitch the bottom of the container 1 / 4 "from the edge of the front and rear on both levels.

Join shoulder seams

Provide a front and back with 2 right sides together.

Stitch the shoulder seams from the neckline toChannel.

Repeat layer coating.

Sandwich press the seams of the shoulders.

Press the seams open.

Cut the lining shoulder seams to 1 / 4 "

Stitch side seams

Sew side seams from bottom to the forearm at both levels.

Sandwich press the seams.

Press the seams open.

Cut the lining side seams to 1 / 4 ".

Try On To Fit Check

Before you sew the two layers, try the top of the tank to see if the cut orArmhole gap. If they do, it is time to correct or too complicated with darts, loosening or cutting or other adjustment sleeve here.

Sewing Tip: Use a tape fuse stay neckline and armholes to eliminate problem gaposis.

Once you form your body to do the same adjustments for the food.

Put together tank top and lining

Put together the 2 wrong sides of the tank top and lining.

Pin the shoulder seams onthe other to hold in place at the neckline and the shoulder point.

Line up and pin together at the underarms.

Pin center fronts and center backs together at the neckline

Pin the armholes together

Beginning at a shoulder seam, stitch the neckline 5/8" to 3/4" from the edge.

Trim off the seam allowance close to the stitching. This edge will be bound and will be the finished edge of the garment.

Stitch the armhole seams 5/8" to 3/4". Trim off the seam allowance close to the stitching.

Now the neckline and armhole edges are ready for binding.

Sewing Tip: You might like to try serging the edges with a
decorative thread or look for a decorative purchased trim to bind them. You are the designer.

Cut Fabric Binding

For a fabric binding, cut matching or contrasting bias binding to go around the neckline and both armholes 4 times wider than you want the finished binding to be.

That is, if you want 3/8" finished binding, cut the bias 1-1/2" wide and the length you need it to be.

Test the width of bias on scraps of your garment and lining fabric (double layer) to make sure you have enough width for the "turn of the cloth".

Sew Binding

Sewing Tip: Use fusible thread in the bobbin of your sewing machine to sew the binding to the neckline and armholes.

Lay the right side of the binding against the right side of
the tank top with the raw edges together.

At the beginning of the binding, fold back the raw end.

Place this fold at one of the shoulder seams for the neckline. You may start the binding at the center back if you prefer, however, if you plan to wear the tank backwards, it may look better to have the binding end at one shoulder.

Place the fold to start the binding at the underarm for the
armholes.

Stitch the binding as deep as you want it to be when finished. Example: 3/8". Slightly stretch the binding as you stitch a curve.

Overlap where you started the binding and trim off the excess. The folded edge of the binding will show when the binding is finished.

Turn the bias up over the garment edge, fold under and pin.

Lightly press to fuse the binding to hold it in place.

Either slipstitch the edge of the binding so the stitches won't show from either side or "stitch in the ditch" or "well stitch" on the right side with the stitches showing on the lining side.

Note: The fusible thread is not enough to hold the binding
permanently. You must stitch it.

If you aren't going to wear the tank top inside out, just leave the raw edge of the binding on the inside and "stitch in the ditch". It eliminates bulk. Since it is bias, it won't fray.

Hemming Options:

Hem the two layers separately. Hem the outside layer first.

Let it hang a while. Try on the garment and mark where the lining should be hemmed. Then hem the lining layer so that it doesn't show.

Note: If the garment is not reversible, hem the lining a little shorter than the garment. If the garment is reversible, you want both layers the same length.

Hand sew a small "swing tack" at the bottom of the side seams to keep both layers together.

Optional: You can stitch both layers together at the bottom and bind it, too.

Another Option: Or, bring the 2 right sides of the bottom of the garment and lining together and stitch leaving about a 4" opening near a side seam to turn the tank right side out.

Slipstitch or fuse the opening closed.

Method II - Create a Center Back Seam For More Choices

This is another favorite sewing technique for sewing a lined
tank top. This method requires either a center front or center back seam in the garment. It is the same technique often used for a reversible or lined vest.

If you don't want a plain seam line down the center of your tank, then turn it into a pleat or tucks or some other design element on the garment. Be sure to allow extra fabric for the center seam plus the pleat, pintucks, etc.

How To Add For An Inverted Pleat

Here is an example of how to add for an inverted pleat. This
pleat folds toward the seam line and helps to hide it. You can add decorative or top stitching or trim, etc. to the pleat if desired. You are the designer. Do whatever suits your fancy. Get ideas from ready-to-wear.

For a 1" inverted pleat down the center back or center front of a tank top, you need to add double the pleat (2") plus a seam allowance (5/8"). That adds up to 2-5/8" total that you need to add to the center front or center back fold line in order to make a 5/8" seam and have a 1" pleat.

You might also like the seam exposed as the focal point of a box pleat and run a row of trim or buttons down the seam line. Just fold the pleat to create a box pleat instead of an inverted pleat.

How To Sew The Tank Top

Directionally staystitch the necklines and armholes on both layers to prevent stretching as specified in Method I.

Stitch the shoulder seams on both layers. Press and trim as in Method I.

Do NOT make the center seam. For our example, we will use a center back seam.

Put the 2 right sides together of the tank and the lining together

Stitch the armholes, trim and understitch. Use short stitches (18-20 per inch); trim to 1/8" and understitch.

For the neckline, beginning on the back about 2" before the
shoulder seam, stitch around the neckline and stop 2" beyond
the other shoulder seam.

Trim seam and understitch. Use short stitches to stitch a curve (18-20 per inch); trim to 1/8" and understitch.

Leave the back neckline unstitched until after you make the seam and pleat in the center back. It is fine for now.

Turn Right Side Out

Now, pull the split unstitched right and left backs through each shoulder to turn right side out.

Press the stitched neckline and armholes well with understitching up at the board.

Stitch Center Seam

Stitch the center seam at 5/8". Sandwich press. Press seam open.

Mark Pleat

With the face side up, mark fold lines 2" away from either side of the seam line. Bring those lines over to the seam line and press the pleat in place.

You can stitch 1" from the marked fold if desired.

Repeat for the lining.

Finish Back Neckline

Now, finish the back neckline. Stitch with short stitches, trim, understitch, press.

Shoulders, neckline, and armholes are finished.

Sew Side Seams

Lay the right sides together for both the garment and the
lining.

Pin the underarm seams one on top of the other matching exactly.

Start at the bottom of the garment and stitch in a continuous seam up to the armhole, stop, walk your sewing machine over the pin, and keep stitching down the lining side seam.

Sandwich press the seam.

Press the seam open.

Do not trim this lining seam in case you need to let the garment out.

Turn the lining layer down inside the garment.

Finish The Bottom

Finish the bottom as described above with either separate hems, or. . .
Stitch the two layers together leaving an opening near a side seam and turn right side out.

Design Your Own Tank Style Garments

Change your necklines, add slits to the side, or lengthen
the tank top pattern for tunic, knee length, or floor length. Just make sure to allow room for hip width plus ease.

Perfect the fit on your tank top sewing pattern. Use it to sew blouses, dresses, beach cover-ups, night gowns, vests and sleeveless jackets.

Sew a whole wardrobe using different fabrics like silk, lace, fleece, leather, suede, denim, upholstery fabrics, sheers, cottons, knits, quilted fabric, whatever you want.

Add decorative stitching, appliques, embroidery, fabric manipulation; try out all your sewing techniques, paints, etc.

Have fun designing your own unique tank wardrobe. They are
quick and easy sewing projects.

It just makes sense!

Accessorize Your Apparel with Stylish Fashion Jewelry

If you're feeling a little drab with your outfits, don't worry. Whether you're planning a family outing, attending a formal party or dinner, or just going out for a night on the town, you can spruce up any of your outfits with stylish fashion jewelry. Don't spend more money on new clothes - accessorize the outfits you already have with lovely fashion jewelry. Here are some great tips to help you achieve the look and feel you want with almost any outfit.

Fashion Jewelry Necklaces - Slender the Neckline

Necklaces can enhance the look of your shirt, sweater or dress by adding color, brightness and beauty. You can even make your neck and upper body appear thinner by wearing certain types of necklaces. For example, if you have a solid colored shirt or dress with a rounded neckline, wear a necklace of medium length that hangs in a V-shape. The V-shape will make the neckline appear narrow and will also draw attention away from the arms and shoulders. For a larger person with broad shoulders, this is a thrilling discovery! It's the easiest weight-loss program around!

For shirts or dresses with a V-shaped neckline, a medium to short necklace that's more rounded looks nice. Again, wearing opposites near the neck draws attention away from other areas, so a slender look is achieved once more. The type of slide you choose also makes a difference. Use a slide that matches or complements your outfit, but choose the size and shape carefully. Fashion jewelry necklaces and slides look different on everyone depending on the personâEUR(TM)s neckline size and body shape. Even the shape of the face should be considered.

Some types of fashion jewelry necklaces include beads, pearls, diamonds, chains (rope or regular), twist, multi-chain, braided, etc. There are also many themes to choose from in slides, including animals and nature, elegant designs, bead assortments and more.

Bracelets and Earrings

Once you find a necklace, choose a bracelet and earrings to complement the necklace. Or, you can buy all of these in a set. Bracelets help make your ensemble complete. Earrings help bring attention to your face and away from your upper body and shoulders. Some earrings shine and glisten while others are plain and simple. Either way, they make great additions to your apparel.

Specialty Jewelry

If you like silver, then try sterling silver jewelry. It's gorgeous for all occasions and comes in a variety of styles, sizes and shapes. If you are allergic to many types of jewelry, then hypoallergenic fashion jewelry might be a solution. Hypoallergenic fashion jewelry looks the same as other jewelry, but is made a certain way as to not trigger allergic reactions. If you have skin rashes or other reactions to jewelry, try hypoallergenic fashion jewelry before giving up all together. You might be pleasantly surprised!

Fashion Jewelry and other Accessories for Work

When dressing for work, use fashion jewelry to dress for success. Add a necklace, watch and matching handbag to your work apparel to show you are ready for the tasks ahead. Keep work-related jewelry simple so it doesn't get in the way. For example, rings that are very large or pointy might be a hindrance if you work with your hands often. Choose fashion jewelry for work that's both sensible and fashionable.

Shopping for Fashion Jewelry made Easy on the Web

You can easily shop for beautiful fashion jewelry online and save time and money. Many fashion jewelry sites sell all types of jewelry, watches, handbags and even other products such as luggage, Italian charms, etc. When ordering online, you can take your time to browse all the categories and choose the fashion jewelry that works best for you.
